Clownexus DOCUMENTARY
The ClownNexus film documentary, This is where we meet, explores how healthcare clowning is able to connect people through art and laughter and spark moments of joy and fulfilment for the artist and audience alike.
As human beings, we all share fundamental needs for connection and joy, regardless of our circumstances. Conditions like dementia and autism are life-altering, but they do not diminish the universal need for human interaction and emotional resonance. Through humour, we can bridge divides and rediscover the beauty of shared emotions, even in the face of neurodiverse challenges. Art and humour have the power to unite and spark hope even in the toughest times.
In this documentary, Creators Berta Tilmantaite and Mindaugas Drigotas from Nara film, portray an emotive and touching picture, showing a variety of magical encounters that take place when people come together through the art of clowning.
ClowNexus is a large-scale cooperation project co-funded by Creative Europe, running from November 2020 to October 2023. Over this period, eight European healthcare clowning organizations explored how art and humour can foster social connections among two key groups: individuals with dementia and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The documentary won Best Direction and Audience Award at the Wildsound FEEDBACK Film and Screenplay Festival, the Best Documentary Award at the NewBorn Short Film and was nominated for Best Documentary at the 3in1 Film Festival in Portugal. It was also selected for the Jagran Film Festival 2024.
It was screened in several film festivals, namely: Agrinio Short Film Festival, WILDsound FEEDBACK Film and Screenplay Festival, Kalakari Film Festival, 11th International Documentary Festival of Ierapetra & Awards, First-Time Filmmaker Sessions, Lift-Off Filmmaker Sessions, West Side Mountains Doc Fest, Cuzco Underground Cinema Festival, NewBorn Short Film Festival, 3in1 Film Fest.
