Clowning Connects Us is a large-scale Creative Europe Cooperation project implemented by eight European Healthcare Clowning Organisations between 2020-2023.
During the project’s timeframe, we collaborated with audiences, experts, artists from other fields, staff members such as carers, teachers, nurses and doctors, as well as family members, to learn and develop artistic tools and interventions that bring joy and have a positive impact on mental health.
These are the organisations that formed part of the project consortium as partners:

Throughout the project, artists developed new artistic tools and approaches together with their co-creators:
People with dementia, children and teenagers on the Autism Spectrum, their family members, carers, social experts and artists from other artistic fields.
Autism and dementia are very distinct neurological conditions with different causes and characteristics.
Nevertheless, there are challenges that individuals affected by either of these conditions may experience, such as social challenges, difficulties in communication and being affected by behavioural changes.
It’s essential to recognise that, like everyone else, these individuals have the same fundamental desires: to be acknowledged, heard, and included in their communities.
With the project ClowNexus, we sought to find a common path to create, play, laugh and enjoy art together, giving time and space to everybody to express their perspectives, feelings and creativity in their own language.
To develop artistic tools and approaches that contribute to a more supportive environment, we also collaborated closely with family members, carers, social experts and artists from other artistic fields. Without them none of our work would have been possible.
